Currently, HBO is completing the casting for its new series “The Last of Us”, one of the directors of which, by the way, is Kantemir Balagov. The report states that the project in terms of spending for each series will surpass “Game of Thrones”.
The president of the Association of Film Artists and Technicians Damian Petty in an interview with Forbes said that each episode of the series “The Last of Us” exceeds an eight-figure number. If true, one episode could be worth at least $10 million, and in total that amounts to $100 million per season of ten episodes.
Forbes adds that due to Damian’s “very loud” statement, the season could potentially cost $150 million, which is definitely out of budget even for the final seasons of Game of Thrones.
Recall that the budget of the sixth season of “Game of Thrones” was $10 million per series, and by the 8th, final, season, the cost of one episode was $15 million.
The plot of the new HBO series “The Last of Us” is based on a video game in which the action takes place 20 years after the destruction of civilization. Joel, an inveterate survivor, is hired to get 14-year-old Ellie out of the tight quarantine zone. What starts with a little work soon turns into a brutal journey as they both have to survive in the prevailing conditions.
